Reddit’s member ‘zomprd‘ is currently working on an AI-enhanced HD Texture Pack for Diablo 2. The modder has so far extracted and upscaled the textures from the Rogue Encampment, and shared some screenshots. Thus, these screenshots will give you an idea of what a faithful Diablo 2 Remaster could have looked like.
The modder aims to also upscale some characters, monsters, items and other textures in the next few days. Then, he plans to create a web application – a prototype, a Diablo 2 demo – which uses these upscaled textures. Unfortunately though, and after releasing this demo, the modder does not plan to release a HD Texture Pack for the base game.
Still, PC gamers will finally be able to get a taste of Diablo 2 Remaster in the form of this fan demo. Let’s hope that another modder will pick up from zomprd’s work and complete a HD Texture Pack. After all, this game deserves a high quality Texture Pack.
The vanilla version of Diablo 2 is on the right, whereas the remastered version of the game is on the left. I also suggest opening the screenshots in new tabs so you can more easily appreciate the visual improvements.
